The Goatlings fundraising feature, Goalings, was announced on August 18th, 2019 ^[1] and went on its first test run September 14th, 2019 ^[2]. The feature is used to fund updates and site maintenance. The site normally has three types of fundraisers: Monthly Support, New Features, and Charities.

In the past, Goatlings has held fundraisers through other platforms, such as Indiegogo and Patreon, and run campaigns to support outside causes.

Monthly Support[]

Monthly Support is a recurring campaign to help cover the costs of site maintenance, and behind-the-scenes fees. Every month, Goatlings users can donate to each of the 3 monthly support campaigns and obtain the corresponding Lucky Boxes.

The minimum donation is $5 for 1 box, but users can donate more. When donating more than $10, donators will still only receive two maximum of the appropriate box each month. These Lucky Boxes were originally rewards for Patreon backers before Krisgoat decided to overhaul the Patreon and switch to fundraising directly through Goatlings.com ^[3]. On February 5th, 2022, three new Lucky Box sets were introduced into the donation pool ^[4], with each set of three alternating each month.

Previous New Feature Fundraisers[]

MM Signups[]

The first new feature fundraiser was held to cover the costs of coding event sign-ups for Monster Masquerade. The fundraiser ran from September 14th, 2019, through September 30th, 2019 ^[5]. The fundraiser helped fund the following specific features:

A Team tag will be displayed automatically below the member's name on the forums and upcoming Bulletin Boards.
Admins have the ability to set Teams up and remove them at the end of the event.
Admins have the ability to remove selected members if necessary.

The Pumpkin Love AD and accompanying items were designed by Lostysaur as donation incentives. The fundraising goal was met before the campaign was officially announced, with users donating $3,170 USD collectively.

Bulletin Boards[]

The planned second run of the event was to fund Bulletin Boards, a feature to help out with all future events. The goal was set at $550, but due to the excess donations from the MM Sign Ups campaign, Krisgoat used those funds for the Bulletin Board costs, and the campaign met its donation goal in under 12 hours ^[6].

The proposed features were:

Easier and faster reward distribution during events.
The ability to submit event entries to Bulletin Boards as well as participate in event games. Ex: an entry will remain hidden until a staff member accepts the entry.
Members who cannot use the forums will be able to access Bulletin Boards, meaning members who have no access to forums can still participate.

Because of the campaign's immediate success, Krisgoat chose to add the planned donation rewards to the Shopping District instead.

Charities[]

Justice June Charity Fundraiser[]

In June 2020, in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and Black lives in America, Goatlings began hosting a fundraiser to raise money for the NAACP, with the end goal being $1,000 USD ^[7]. Users who donated at least $5 would receive a Coffee Box, which would randomly drop an item it contained when opened. Members could only receive a coffee box for donations up to $30 total throughout the 2020 fundraiser's duration. Anything greater than $30 was welcome, but additional items would not be rewarded. This was later raised in 2021 to be up to $60 total to receive an item reward, and again, additional donations were welcome, but items would not be rewarded after $60 total was donated. In 2022 and 2023, this system was repeated, but with the addition of the Justice RAD, which was not part of the Coffee Box and could only be obtained by donating $30 or $60.

The month-long charity will return with its accompanying items annually in June, and all funds will be donated to support more Black-led organizations in the upcoming years. In 2020, the community raised $3,855, which was rounded up to $4,000 by Goatlings, for the NAACP ^[8]. In 2021, the community raised $3,390, which was rounded up to $3,500 by Goatlings, for the National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition ^[9]. In 2022, the community raised $6,375 for The Okra Project, the highest amount ever raised on any fundraiser to date ^[10]. In 2023, the community raised $5,205 for the Equal Justice Initiative ^[11].

Trivia[]

The initial fundraiser, MM Signups, was funded before the news post officially went up.
The second fundraiser, Bulletin Boards, was funded within 12 hours of MM Signups being up due to the excess donations from the previous fundraiser.
The Justice June Charity Fundraiser in 2020 was fully funded within 12 hours, reaching its goal of $1,000.
The Justice June Charity Fundraiser in 2021 was fully funded within 10 hours, reaching its goal of $1,000.
The Justice June Charity Fundraiser in 2022 was fully funded in less than an hour, reaching its goal of $1,000.
The Justice June Charity Fundraiser goal in 2023 was raised from $1,000 to $3,000, reaching the first milestone of $1,000 in less than 2 hours after the news post on site was posted. The fundraiser reached its goal of $3,000 5 days later on June 12th, 2023. The fundraiser finished on July 7th, 2023 having raised $5,205 USD total.
The Justice June Charity Fundraiser of 2024 was the very first fundraiser that didn't reached its goal out of all the fundraisers that have been hosted on site. The goal of $3,000 managed to raise only $1,695 USD by the end of the event on June 3rd, 2024 ^[12].
