JusticeJuneFundraiser

The Justice June Charity Fundraiser was created on June 14th, 2020 [1], in response to the Black Lives Matter movement happening across the United States. It is an annual fundraiser that runs for an entire month, and all funds raised are donated to a Black-led charity. The charity can be found in the fundraisers tab in the community center on site during the month of June, where users who donate through Goatlings will receive an exclusive item.

Justice, the shopkeeper of the coffee shop, is the main face that represents the fundraiser, and all items obtainable through the fundraiser are related in some way.

Previous Charities[]

2020[]

The first Justice June Charity began raising funds for the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), which focuses on securing "political, educational, social, and economic equality rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons".

Users who donated at least $5 would receive a Coffee Box, which would randomly drop an item it contained when opened. Members could only receive a coffee box for donations up to $30 total throughout the fundraiser's duration in 2020, and anything greater than $30 was welcome, but additional items would not be rewarded. The initial goal was to raise $1,000 for the charity, which was fully funded within 12 hours. Members could claim a Cotton Candy Icon and 3,000 Sugar Stars through Princess Gifts as a thank you for the overwhelming support [2].

The community raised $3,855 all together, with Goatlings rounding up to and donating $4,000 to the NAACP at the end of the month [3].

The coffee box originally had 5 items during its initial release, but is given new items yearly.

2021[]

The organization selected for 2021 was the The National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition (BTAC), which focuses on "advocating to end poverty, discrimination in all forms and its human inequities faced in health, employment, housing and education that are rooted in systemic racism, to improve the lived experience of transgender people." It is ran by black trans people who work on peacebuilding, education, public policy initiatives, empowerment programs, and direct services such as assisting in basic needs, housing, healthcare, and job search [4].

The donation rewards were similar to the previous year, with 5 new items being added to the Coffee Box. The total limit an individual could donate was raised to $60 instead of $30 like the previous year. Donations remained accumulative, with $60 remaining as the cap for any additional item rewards. The goal amount for that year was $1,000, which was fully funded within 10 hours of the start of the fundraiser on June 9th, 2021 [5]. The fundraiser finished on July 8th, 2021 [6], having raised $3,390 USD total, with Goatlings rounding up to and donating $3,500 to the BTAC on July 9th, 2021 [7].

Justice Plush, Justice Top, Cafe Combo, Matcha Cake, and Affogatito were the new additions to the Coffee Box in 2021.

2022[]

The organization selected for 2022 was the The Okra Project, which aims to "address the global crisis faced by Black Trans people by bringing home cooked, healthy, and culturally specific meals and resources to Black Trans People wherever we can reach them" [8].

The donation rewards were similar to the previous year, with 4 new items being added to the Coffee Box. A RAD variation of Justice was added to the $30 and $60 reward tiers. Donations remained accumulative, with $60 remaining as the cap for any additional item rewards. The goal amount for that year was $1,000, which was fully funded within an hour of the start of the fundraiser. The fundraiser finished on July 9th, 2022 [9], having raised $6,370 USD total, which is the highest amount any charity so far has raised.

Justice Base, Justice Face, Barista Hands, and Unicorn Frappe were the new additions to the Coffee Box in 2022, while the Justice RAD is a donation reward outside of the box.

2023[]

The organization selected for 2023 was the The Equal Justice Initiative or EJI. The Equal Justice Initiative is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society [10].

The donation rewards were similar to the previous year, with 7 new items being added to the Coffee Box. The items were also available as individual item rewards when buying different tiers. The RAD variation of Justice was still only available to the $30 and $60 reward tiers. Donations remained accumulative, with $60 remaining as the cap for any additional item rewards. The goal amount for that year was raised to $3,000, which was fully funded 5 days later after the start of the fundraiser on June 12th, 2023. The fundraiser finished on July 7th, 2023 [11], having raised $4,845 USD total.

Justice Cookies, Justice RAD Stars, Justice RAD Top, Paw Lait Friend, Mewcha Friend, Catpuccino Friend, and Justice Cats BP were the new additions to the Coffee Box in 2023.

2024[]

The organization selected for 2024 was the Center for Black Equity. The Center for Black Equity wants to promote a multinational LGBTQ+ network dedicated to improving health and wellness opportunities, economic empowerment, and equal rights while promoting individual and collective work, responsibility, and self-determination [12].

The donation rewards were similar to the previous year but no new items were added that year to the box or as extra rewards. The goal amount for that year was of $3,000, which sadly wasn't reached. The fundraiser finished on July 3rd, 2024 [13], having raised $1,695 USD total.
